Ramblings from the Range

European American Arms

(Tanfoglio) Witness

As promised, we deliver. This edition of Ramblings from the Range features the European American Arms(EAA) Witness in polymer.

EAA is an importer based out of Florida. The Witness is produced in Italy by a company by the name of Tanfoglio. It is said that they have ties to Beretta but we have not researched this claim.  On to the review.

Looks: I personally have to say it is definitely a great looking gun, especially in polymer. It is based on the CZ-75 but from an appearance standpoint, we see it as an improvement.

Design: As previously mentioned, the Witness is based on the CZ-75. It is the progeny of John Browning's original design which the 1911 family has followed. In short, it is simple and it works. Our only gripe is the fact that the return spring is a pain in the butt to get back in the slide after cleaning. This is offset by the guns reliability (No jams to date).

Accuracy: Simply put, this is one of the most accurate handguns we've ever fired. Out of the box, it was spot on without any adjustment of the sights. While I don't have concrete numbers as far as groups go, I can tell you that it is accurate enough to drill a 32 oz Powerade bottle 7 consecutive times at 22 yards. I can easily see a 2.5-2.75" group at 25 yards.

Concealability: Our model is the full sized version. There is a compact version available. We still consider it a solid candidate for concealed carry.

Summary: We will rate the gun on the following point system;

5 - excellent

4 - good

3 - solid

2 - functional, but needs work

1 - poor

With our point system laid out here we go:

Appearance: 5

Design: 4.5 (the darn return spring)

Accuracy: 5 (will compete with guns twice its price)

Concealability: 4 (see comments on this above)

OVERALL: 4.62

With a price tag of around $400 new, this gun is hard to beat. Great overall package: great appearance, accurate, dependable, and with the right setup, it is very  easy to conceal.
